So like many here in the United States and around the world, I watched with a mixture of shock, awe, and disbelieve as Donald Trump won the presidency of the United States. The man that would never win the primaries…never win the Republican Party nomination…couldn’t possibly beat the juggernaut politician that is Hillary Clinton…achieved the impossible. As to be expected a lot of folks lost, and still continue to lose, their ever livin’ minds over the reality that Donald Trump is the President-Elect of the United States of America.
I’ll just be blunt…I think the protests/riots that have taken place….and will take place after he’s inaugurated…are asinine. Those that protest/riot are nothing more than slaves to their emotions and are simply wasting their time. The reality is while those that protest/riot like to believe that breaking other people’s shit, blocking traffic, and just being an all-around nuisance is going to change what has happened, the reality is their efforts will change nothing. If anything, these protests/riots will only reinforce the notion that electing Donald Trump as the next president of this country was actually the right decision to make.
At this point, I feel what we should be doing as Americans is taking a good hard look at who we are as a people. Because while we are loathe to admit it, our President is a direct reflection of our collective selves. Up to this point, I feel we’ve been fooling ourselves in electing our recent past presidents. Not to say the presidents of recent yore have been perfect, but each of them have exhibited a certain amount of class, statesmanship, and restraint that well…are traits that we as Americans seem to no longer employ. The reality is by electing Donald Trump, we Americans now have an accurate reflection of who we are collectively…loud, brash, and arrogant.
What has amazed me most is the support that those that have protested have garnered. How brave they are, so many say, for exercising their freedom of speech! Let’s set the record straight…those that have reacted and protested thus far are not brave! These are a people that lack discipline and self-control, and protest only to serve their own misguided self-interests!
I have a better idea…instead of supporting those that have become slaves to their own emotions, let’s laud those that have responded instead of reacted. Kudos to those that have taken a big deep breath and reflected upon what this will mean for our country. The brave ones are not those that break other people’s shit, block traffic, and annoy those that respect and abide by the law. The brave ones are those that engage in meaningful conversation, with those of opposite beliefs, in the hopes of peacefully compromising and finding common ground on the issues that divide us as a Nation.
The reality is Donald Trump is going to be the next President of the United States. For those that can’t accept this…get over it! No amount of recounting or protesting the process is going to change this. No amount of breaking other people’s shit, blocking traffic, and just being an all-around nuisance is going to change this reality. Donald Trump is an accurate reflection of who we are as Americans, no matter how loathe we are to admit it. As Americans, we need to use this time to step back and reflect upon who we are as a people. Instead of supporting those that protest, we need to support those that have taken the time to reflect and are willing to engage in meaningful compromise to fix that which ails this country. Compromise…not ideology…is what will make America great again!!

Meh…I don’t want to say I told you so…but…
